Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers

Why go to major expense risking your health with facelifts when dermal fillers provide a safe economic means of preserving your looks as we all inevitably age? As you grow older it is a fact of life you will notice changes in your skin as the process of sagging, drooping and wrinkling begins. This is because the fat tissues and collagen supporting our skin diminishes with age. Where as facelifts involve major surgery dermal fillers do not involve any operation and are much less invasive. They can give you significant benefits by re-stimulating your own collagen production. The process is much less expensive and avoids long recovery periods after treatment. This system is the modern woman’s approach to facial improvement and is very much in vogue.

How do they work?

Natural problem areas around the eyes, mouth, jaws, brows, cheeks and the bridge of the nose are injected with minimum discomfort. You can also give yourself a younger look by restoring fuller lips, or by reversing the effect of scars or acne. They are today’s wonder treatment. And if you look younger you feel younger. The result invariably does wonders for your self-assurance and confidence.

Which filler?

They are many kinds of fillers and new ones are coming onto the market every day. At the outset bovine collagen was the first legally approved treatment, but since it is extracted from cattle, its use became somewhat restricted when Mad Cow Disease was first diagnosed. Others include human collagen, hyaluronic acid, donor tissue fat and autologous fat from your own body to name but a few. Still more include poly-l-latic acid, polymers and collagen based implants and other new methods currently being researched. Then there are also carefully selected combinations which incorporate the best elements of each. One type will last longer than another and some are more appropriate to individuals than others, something that has to be ascertained in each case. Strengths and weaknesses vary between product and careful selection is essential. But what is certain is that the product range and standards are advancing all the time, and there is now a very substantial and proven science behind the procedure. Advantages and Disadvantages of mainstream choices: Some products such as human collagen are more popular since they do not require any prior skin testing. A hyaluronic acid base restores skin volume by binding to water and is another choice which requires no prior skin testing. Autologous fat is usually taken from the thighs, buttocks or stomach by micro liposuction, whilst calcium hydroxyapatite degrades slowly and lasts longer.

Our Policy

First and foremost we will not risk our patients health by the use of any inappropriate product. We prefer to use synthetically produced non-animal products consisting of hyalauronic acid which is a natural chemical constituent of the skin. These products are far less likely to produce allergic reactions than old fashioned fillers such as collagen derived from cow hide. Any discerning patient will wonder about after effects and we make it our business to fully inform our patients of what they can expect. As against the trauma and bruising of facelifts patients using dermal fillers may suffer some side effects. A degree of bleeding or bruising is possible after the procedure. There will be some pain and reddening of the skin usually restricted to a day or so and much reduced by the application of some ice to the area. Some bleeding of the overlying skin may sometimes occur which will resolve itself over time. And in rare cases patients may develop an allergy to certain treatments. This is why careful selection and administration by experts is essential and why you should place yourselves in the hands of experts such as ourselves.
